A technical report on the status of the shortages in California teachers was published September 2018.
The supply of new teaching candidates had declined by more than 70% over the decade when jobs were not available.1 As a result, since 2014–15, California districts have reported acute shortages of teachers, especially in mathematics, science, and special education.2 The passage of Proposition 58 reinstating bilingual education has triggered additional shortages of bilingual teachers.
