 Nothing is more exciting than a new distribution to kick around. Tech-no-media wrote about their experiences with Linux Mint 7.0, code-named Gloria., both live CD and installed.
Erlik was impressed with the polished look. He was also impressed by the start menu (shown to the left). Negatives discussed were the lack of a one-click upgrade and a lack of a large corporation or organization behind the distribution.

 According to Phoronix, Interactive Computing Lab in ENAC, Toulouse were successful in bringing native multi-touch support to Linux.

Sarah Sharp announced on her blog that USB 3.0 support: coming soon to a Linux kernel near you! As Sarah explains, "This means that Linux will be the first operating system with official USB 3.0 support. I'm working with Keve Gabbert (the OSV person in my group at Intel) to make sure that Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Red Hat pick up the xHCI driver. Advanced users can always compile their own kernel on a standard distro install."

 Another day in development describes an Ubuntuu 9.04 install on an ASUS Eee PC 901. The most interest part of the post is a description of the boot time, " The most noticeable change is boot time. It is super quick! After grub loaded the kernel image, it takes 20-25 seconds for me to be logged in and working on my desktop. Another few seconds go by and I get a message that my wireless is connected. "

The C114 arrived in the US mail and my 17-year old daughter set it up in the living room in under a few minutes. She didn't read all the cautions about the wireless keyboards needing an external power source until after the first lockup. She didn't mind and after getting things organized she moved on to posting a simple message on Facebook, "I'm using my Cherrypal."

Believe it or not - not all Linux distributions are free. Actually, most outsiders of the community misinterpret the term 'free' and expect that to mean they do not have to pay anything. Not all distribution licenses are written in this manner. Instead, free means 'freedom' and not 'no cost.' This always comes as a surprise to some people. Tom callaway explains this challenge in a professional manner in his rant about licenses.
