There you go lying again as usual. You squawk like a mother hen with
inflated numbers of Ubuntu users. You are happy to report that you
"believe" there are 12+ million users. You have even quoted some dumb shit
who also posted the same thing, so you do care. I keep catching you in lies
over and over.

You're the type of idiot who would rob a bank and write the teller a note on
YOUR deposit slip! LOL!

Even if your ISP no longer runs a Usenet server, you could still use
Microsoft's server for *their* newsgroups (in fact, I preferred it).

Not the point. I don't think you could find many Usenet users under 40.
As ISPs don't offer Usenet and obviously don't promote it and since AOL
nuked access, MS knows that the lion's share of users are Facebook types
that do everything with a browser, including email.

That's the gist of the Microsoft message- they are shutting their news
servers down also. Then you'll have to use the forums for
help/questions/support if there are no alt. or comp. groups on non-Microsoft
servers such as High Winds (Charter) or aioe(?).org.

No - You posted those numbers to validate your reason for being here but we
all saw through the lies and nailed you to the post. You're just so stupid,
you keep coming back to be beaten down some more. Must be the drugs that

I understand. Another nail in the coffin was Microsoft's decision to stop
bundling a newsreader in Windows. As crappy as OE was, with it gone, less
people ever discover Usenet's existence.

So how are they going to stop people like Aliass on Forums? If M$
staff are going to moderate them then why can't they do the same
on Newsgroups?

The reason they are moving to Forums is because they don't want
millions of people looking for Support free of charge. They want
to make as hard as possible for people to look for any help.

Mark, that is what they are closing because they don't seem to be
able to control it anymore. Mind you, they will start with less
used newsgroups like Outlook Express, Microsoft Office Accounting,
IE6 browsers then they will move on to newsgroups dealing with
products that Microsoft no longer develops. I suspect they will
close down WindowsXP newsgroups if Windows 7 proves not to be
successful. Obviously, they want people to move to Windows 7 but
if people continue using XP then they will have to do something
about it to kill it off completely.

My 2 pence worth!.

That's because so many of their users can't understand what the heck
usenet even is. If you can't point and click on it, they have no interest.

I tried it before and got the same as you. I just tried it again and still
the same. I guess they'll get it right one of these days, then it will be
like all the other forum sites, won't have to put up with the trolls and
children as the moderator will kick them off. But, it will probably be
slower and have advertisements like Yahoo and Google does. Probably won't be
any binaries either.

The worst thing MS ever did was modify their email program to work with
Usenet, usenet has suffered ever since.

You're correct, by himself he is not strong enough to have that affect, but
if you notice he is getting more company all the time. Some pretend to be
his adversary when in reality they are his ally with the goal of starting a
flame war. The way I've seen it done before was when the mail to news first
came out the ng's got swarmed with children and trolls. They would liken it
to poking a dog through a fence with a stick. Eventually, like the other
ng's I've seen go under, it will be just as another poster stated, the group
will be so full of idiots you won't be able to carry on a civil
conversation. I've been in 3 or 4 ng's where this has happened and the group
was moved to a forum, most of them on Yahoo groups. Like I stated in another
post, this keeps all the trash out, but it's slower and has advertising you
have to contend with.

It can be done on ng's, but is a lot harder to implement. I'm not sure what
the process is exactly, but one of the ng's I saw go under moved to from
alt.****.**** to rec.****.****
I think there is a cost to set up and maintain a site here, you have to have
a moderator, someone who is willing to donate their time to monitor posts
and weed out the trash before it gets posted. Very few people are willing to
do this on an extended basis without some type of pay or compensation, the
only way to do this is donations (good luck with that), advertising or
having the forum on your site so you can advertise your stuff. You could be
right in that MS might be looking for a way to compete with Yahoo, Google
and possibly others while promoting their stuff.
I think the primary reason they are doing this though is the s*** that's
being posted here is now affecting them and they want to damage control in
some way before it gets very much worse. I haven't done any scientific
analyzing, but I think the trash is approaching the 50% range so half the
bandwidth concerning MS is wasted. Also, think what impression a newbie gets
when they come here for advice or help and half of what they see is trash,
plus they consider MS to be the problem when, in reality, MS had nothing to
do with it. Now, with a forum site on their server, they can control all
that.
Just my 2 cents,
Dave

Yes, I realize that. I said that you *could* use their servers, meaning
up until this latest assault. I should have been clearer.
