Such messages are a self-fulfilling prophecy. Some of us hate the move
to web based forums.

You don't have to use Forums if you don't want to because
Microsoft has released its latest version of NNTP bridge that
allows you to read forums in your newsreader. The link is here:

I have seen that but I can't get it to work with my reader. I didn't
try too hard as I don't use many Microsoft groups.

Go to the link I gave you because you have all the pictures. The
only thing you need to read carefully is the last para that says:

"Configure your newsreader client" This is where I have problem
at first but solved it pretty quickly. If you still have problems
let me know.

I already have the link in Chrome. I can't remember the problem - it
may have been some requirement to use Explorer. If the need arises
I'll have another go.

Usenet isn't dying, its just getting rid of tons of people that don't
have a clue. Usenet is going just fine.

I got it to work, briefly...but it was a bit buggy and damn, those
forums were just insane to try and follow, hundreds of new posts a day
and so many asking the same questions. It was tough to follow. I got rid
of it.

I got it to start and added some forums, but what a dog! It would DL about
500 headers, then timeout. If I left that forum, then went back, it would
pick up about 100 more headers, then timeout again. That's using it in OE6
in WinXP. I haven't tried it on my Win7 notebook with Windows Live, but I
have a feeling it'll be about the same.

Do you have statistics to back up that assertion?
I'm not saying you're wrong but I'd like to see some hard data.
Anecdotal evidence doesn't count.

Did you think this up all by yourself?

And this is where I have a problem. The bridge software makes it appear
that your news server is on your local pc. However I already run a news
server on my local PC that has feeds from the MS News Groups (so I can keep
a permanent personal archive on groups related to my job).
So if I was to install the bridge then I will be getting conflicts between
my server software and the bridge software :-(
