No you don't. You wish you knew how to run those programs.

There are comparable and better programs that do what those programs do
in Linux. You're also too stupid to run them in Linux.

Therefore Ubuntu is worth exactly what you pay for it:

Again, you're too stupid to run Windows properly, much less Ubuntu.

Command lines to install Firefox? Huh? It comes preinstalled in Ubuntu.

Glad to see you are finally recommending an LTS version which is way
more sensible for newbies. (General user) I'm looking forward to
updating to the new LTS ver, although I'll wait a bit after the initial
release as always with ANY OS.

Now that IS funny. Where MS cloned the KDE type Panel in Win7, I surely
see it the other way around. They very poorly cloned Compiz TYPE effects
as well. As I see it, if you are going to clone, then at LEAST do a GOOD
job of it. They proudly try and pass off their new effects as new and
innovative and, well, just rocking. LOL, what a joke it really is, just
like in Vista. They are so far behind with USEFUL desktop effects, they
think they are first. Don't get me started on themes, as MS has ALWAYS
been behind in that; They just plain SUCK there. I can change themes at
total will whenever I feel like it in Linux, without much ado. Not so
with MS Windows, as any radical change takes much more than point-and-click.

Do you really think the writer of ANY flavor of Linux gives a rats a**
about equating to any MS windows flavor? If so you are only kidding
yourself. Some create themes that look and feel like Winders, but ONLY
to make former Winders users more comfortable making the switch. That's
it, NO other agenda at all. As with many of my clients, I prefer my
Linux Desktop to be as far removed from MS Winders as possible in order
to take a MUCH needed break from MS. (Any Ver)

So anyway, please cite just how Ubuntu is trying hard to "step closer to
Windows 7." I don't see it. BTW, I tested Win7 From BETA to the final,
and like it MUCH better than XP and Vista. I use both Win7 and Linux for
the best of BOTH worlds.

G'day

It's the other way round but you'd have to know something about Ubuntu
to understand that, not just the FUD that MS spews and you, like a fool,
believe.

I'll clean install it the day it comes out. If you back up Home, what's
the risk? This release is supposed to be a Windows breaker now that ext4
and Grub 2 have matured.

Apps home users use don't use MS SQL Server.

Anything done on a webpage is done on a server somewhere, not
on the user PC and essentially, cross-platform. There's as
much of a chance he web server is Linux based and using MySQL
than it is MS & MS SQL Server.

He means a higher version than what comes preinstalled with Ubuntu. What
he doesn't realize is that the new versions will be put in the
repository pipe when it's *ready*.

Hmmmmm. It doesn't seem to update itself, but instead uses the package manager. I
hadn't noticed this before. It only updates plugins.

Is 3.5.8 the latest version ? That's what's on here now.

In Windows, it's 3.6.2. In Ubuntu, it's the version you have. The new
version will be shipped with 10.04, aka Lucid Lynx.

You can install the generic Mozilla bits for Linux. I see no reason
to limit oneself to the distro's customized/delayed release.

And many think like you do. I don't. I only update from the repository
and, as a result, I haven't had a problem since I got started with
Ubuntu in 06.

Why would you have a problem because you installed something like
Mozilla's own compile of Firefox, though? I mean, in its specific
case, it's really six of one, half dozen of the other, since Canonical
and virtually all if not all distros have a Firefox version available,
but what if you want an application that the distro doesn't provide
(perhaps a commercial one - they do exist for Linux)? If that will
cause some kind of trouble with the OS, it doesn't seem very
encouraging about its overall quality.

By the same token, I see no reason to install a newer version if
it's unnecessary.

At this stage in the game, what new feature could they possibly
have in a web browser update that would make it a must have
(other than anything security related).
