The trolling clown Alias-tard got bitch slapped so much in
alt.windows7.general, that he suffers from severe brain damage, just like
his butt buddy Linux loons in COLA. He's in desperate need of a few me

If you really prefer XP, I would have to think it would run on your
new one. I wouldn't recommend it, though, due to the lack of
optimization for more modern hardware (even a lot of XP-era hardware,
such as my own computer, benefits from 7 in that way), and the
dwindling update support (it seems they're literally only doing
critical security updates, as evidenced by the denial-of-service
vulnerability that they didn't feel was necessary to fix in 2000/XP, a
few months ago).

Sounds like you go back to the IBM 1401 days, except that ours had only

If people took the time to understand their computer like they do the
remote for the TV we would see a lot less in the way of problems.

Just imagine if people would actually comprehend the warnings about
security threats that they've been hearing for a decade, that all still
apply, how many people would not be compromised....

If you want to look at how bad it's going to be - volunteer in any
public school, grade 7+, and you will be amazed at how stupid the
students and teachers are.

Either that or not plugged in at all? That and the people that left a
floppy disc in the disk drive and couldn't figure out why the computer
wouldn't boot up. That and its got to the point that if it doesn't have
an icon to click on, it was "too confusing". The "point and click"
people now that would be lost if stuck in front of a C:> prompt. Its
saddening.

Part of me likes the fact computers have become more accessible, but the
downside is tons of people that quite frankly shouldn't be using
computers have them and then have tons of problems and then complain how
much the OS sucks because of their inability to understand and use the
computer.

Computers should NEVER have been allowed to be released to the
general public. But they make for a great surveillance tool for
totalitarian regimes, AND they make LOTS of money for our
friends the Chinese and MS, so...

OTOH, HOW would we kill time now that everything is getting so
boring and stupid?

Not just local box builders...I bought my current laptop online...without a

Ummmmm...Gravity never closed. MicroPlanet stopped _selling_ it, and made
it open source. It has been updated on occasion, since then. Gravity
v2.9.14? came out in December 2009. Time for me to see if it's gotten where
I need it, yet.

Bummer. I couldn't afford the internet until 1992 or 1993....Prairienet was
free, back then. Fortunately for me, I've only been limited to what I could
afford (sometimes, not very much at all). I think PLATO spoiled me - when I
started using PCs, they were toys, compared to even the wimpiest mainframe.

Bullshit. If you're looking for warm fuzzies, you're in the wrong place -
but if you're looking for information and advice, from experienced users,
yes, you ARE in the right place! Of course, if you're really just
interested in trolls, you can find them just about anywhere......
