No, you don't use Secure PW Authentication. You just need to tick the "This
server requires me to log on" option and enter the username and password for
the E-S server. I've been using E-S for years (since before it became E-S)
and that's all you need to do (I don't use it for the MS newsgroups, just
for other groups I read and post in).
The Secure authentication for NNTP is a proprietary Microsoft protocol (it's
a variant of NTLM authentication which is specific to Microsoft services)
and only works with a small number of NNTP servers, all of which I believe
are run by Microsoft.
