Server name is correct.

Check: This server requires me to log on. Enter the User ID and PW. The
Account Name is your User ID. Check: Remember Password. Do not check the
last box.

Thank you very much, Jean! I guess it's just coincidence that as I was
trying to make newsgroup changes, the Corel server went down. Whew! That's a
relief!

If I understand, any posts that go through the E-S news server will acquire
this organization name. If one posts through another server, it won't
happen. Most importantly, it's harmless--right?

Yes, I noticed the huge number of references in the headers for the last few
posts. What I figure is that if I post from Microsoft's server rather than
from E-S's, a lot of this stuff, including the organization name, won't
appear. So...here's my response from the Microsoft server rather than
E-S's...

Thank you, Jean! I tried again and was able to connect through Corel's
server but not through Eternal-September's. I'll check into that.

No. Any post through E-S by a client with an "Organization:" line set will
retain that organization option. See my headers! ;)

Both servers occasionally have some kind of trouble. Administrators usually
get them back on line; sometimes takes more than a day. What can you expect
for "free"?

I'll save your response, Vanguard, for its valuable information! As you know
now, of course, I signed up with Eternal-September and am receiving posts
and posting as usual. I really didn't want to use Google but wasn't sure how
to go about signing up with another NNTP server. I did have some problems,
which Bruce solved; and now everything seems to be working OK.

Thank you!

Hi, Bruce,

I was just looking at a new post at Eternal-September's newusers newsgroup
and saw the following from Ray Banana about setting up an E-S account:
"Please make sure you configure your newsreader to always use authentication
(exact wording depends on your newsreader)."

I assume he means Secure PW Authentication. Is there any reason to do what
he says?

Thank you!
