It's just like those damn yahoo groups. I have been to them, even
started a few of my own years ago. Yea they work, and there are some
interesting groups, but I dont have all day to sit and pick thru them.
Every message has to load separately, when I type a message the
formatting gets all screwed up, and this dont include the hassle of
typing in user name and password everytime I want to go to them. I'm
on dialup, and it takes at least a minute or more to open each message
just to read it. I can read all the latest posts on usenet in
minutes, but on yahoo groups, it takes hours, and one cant search for
topics either.
I tried these MS groups, using my old laptop with Win98se. Firefox
version 2 (last ver for 9
, gave me a ton of error messages, and I
see overlapping messages. IE gave me a completely blank page, except
for the top of page graphic. But even if I use a newer system, how
the hell can anyone find anything in there without spending hours or
days doing it. NO THANKS !!!
As far as MS not controlling usenet, I agree, but they DID kill
hundreds of their no longer needed usenet groups awhile back. I'll
admit there were a shitload of useless ones that got no traffic
anyhow, so, no loss. But that proves they CAN kill the groups.
Actually, I could care less. There are other newsgroups for every
version of Windows. Why stick around here if these groups are going
to get killed. I plan to look at the others soon.
Web based forums of any kind are slow and clumbsy. I'll stick with
usenet. Usenet is far superior and always will be, unless they come
up with something that works in a similar manner, but is NOT web
based.
