Let me give you a clue on how Service Packs work.
I was a test lead on the Windows Service Pack Team (WINSE) for 6 years so I
am pretty familiar with the process.
Many bugs that weren't deemed showstoppers (high priority) were pushed off
to Win7SP1 (and later) during the development process.
Those bugs are now getting looked at along with others that have come up for
inclusion in Win7SP1.
Technically SP1 for Win7 has been in development since well before the
release of Win7.

I have ~110 updates on my Win7 Home Premium, and 43 of them are for
Defender, so that leaves 67. Only half of the 135 claimed by Jon. And the
service pack isn't scheduled to be released until June/July, which is about
the same time frame as the previous versions of Windows. I personally don't
see what the big deal is with the number of updates as long as any problems
are fixed. I install them when I'm reminded, and have never had a problem
since upgrading to Win95 from Win3.11 and subsequent versions.

I think that all new OS's get updates quickly, it's not a Windows thing
- just track the service pack releases for Ubuntu or other distro's.

Windows 7 is still in beta and Steve Ballmer (of whom Frank likes his ass)
decided to make the entire planet his guinea pig to test it out for him and
people have to pay for this privilege. Frank can lick his ass for free
though!
