Specialized input panel for Excel

If you’re a heavy Tablet and Excel user and have ever felt like the built in Tablet Input Panel (TIP) didn’t quite match what you wanted to do in Excel, TipX may have come to your rescue.

I’ve just been playing with TipX–a special purpose Tablet Input Panel add-in for Excel–published by Teletrak.

What does it do? It provides a custom TIP that has a cell or zoomed-in sheet view that’s great for filling out cells in a spreadsheet. It also boasts some other clever TIP features you probably haven’t seen before, such as a scrollable inking service (rather than a window that keeps growing in size), context details for the recognizer, and a custom cell navigator.

From the EnableInk website the add-ins key features are:

* Sheet view for direct writing into cells.
* Cell view for more sophisticated editing of individual cell content.
* Supports optimized handwriting recognition for numeric, currency, date and time, percentage, and formula cells.
* Navigate to cells by writing the cell reference.
* Compliments the standard Excel user interface, the TipX window can easily be hidden or shown as required.
* 100% designed for Tablet PC pen use, no keyboard interaction required.

The cost? $19.95.

Here’s a link to a screencast that gives a glimpse of what the TipX add-in can do.
