No doubt, communication and collaboration is going to be more and more important in the days ahead–especially as devices become more mobile and pervasive.

I see from the Slashdot article that some universities are blocking Skype and other VOIP applications because they can become heavy bandwidth consumers. Too bad that resource management is trumping communication. My guess is that the rest of the market is going to push technological advances to make this even more feasible–even for the bandwidth conscious. In the meantime, asking a university that you’re considering attending whether they block Skype might be a good thing to ask.
