Interview with ArtRage developers

Chris Coulter passed along a link to this great ComputerWorld story and interview with Ambient Design–the company that created the phenomenal ArtRage.

Like many terrific developer teams, Ambient Design has a core of two developers: Matthew Fox-Wilson and Andy Bearsley. There are many, many great small developer efforts. In fact, most are small. Sometimes that’s easy to forget.

What I found interesting was that ArtRage was funded by Microsoft. That kind of surprised me, but it makes sense. The extra polish shows.

The article also says that the “1.0 release saw some 100,000 downloads and a number of Tablet PC manufacturers also bundle ArtRage with their products. Version 1.1, released in August, has been even more popular, with some 20 magazines around the world putting it on their cover CDs.

Yeah, ArtRage is a leading download on TabletPCPost, but actually I’m guessing that the majority of the numbers here are coming from non-Tablet users since the product works on non-Tablets too.

It’s a terrific product. Congrats to the Ambient team. Well deserved.

  1. It is a great product, but I’ve not mastered it on the desktop. I am sure a Tablet would be much easier to manage.

However, InkPlayer is much easier for me on the PC. (I have a post on drawing a pumpkin that I used it with, posted the animation too).

Ever going to develop that any further?
