ALV (A LEARNERS’ VIEW) IS A PROPERTY of the social institution education and of its organizations, such as schooling, teaching, and learning. ALV refers to commonalities across more than a century of results of experimental behavioral and social science research. These commonalities describes choices people make while learning. The property ALV is to social life as DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is to biological life. Both carry their form of observable patterns of activity (processes) that make life what it is. ALV exists as that part of social life, as does DNA for biological life, which accounts, in part, for continuity and changes in how people live together, including choices people make while learning.

Choices as social processes (patterns of actions) are observable, measurable, and manageable. ALV appears as an integral part of teaching and learning during schooling and learning, regardless of names people use to refer to them, such as classic, 21st century, individualized, culturally diverse, or another type of education.
