How to find Tablet PC line drawings on the web

Ever wanted to see what people draw using their Tablet PC? Up until now, to do so it’s been a little bit of an inefficient process. You can search for “Tablet PC,” for instance, using Google Images, but more often than not this would have given you lots more results than ink drawings actually made using a Tablet.

Well, today, Google is making it a lot easier to search for inked artwork drawn on a Tablet.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Enter the URL images.google.com or click on Images on the Google search page, which will take you to images.google.com.
2. To the right of the “Search Images” button, click on the “Advanced Image Search” link. This will bring up the following screen of image search options:

AdvancedImageSearch

3. Type “Tablet PC” in the “related to the exact phrase” edit field.
4. Change the “Content type” from the default “any content” to “line drawings” since we’re only interested in line drawing and not other Tablet PC related images.
5. We’re ready to do the search. Click or tap on the “Google Search” button.

Here are the results I got today:

GoogleSearchForTabletPCLineDrawings

Pretty cool.

Now, of course, this doesn’t pick up every Tablet PC drawing out on the Net, but it does give quite a few. The search phrase you select is going to be very important in terms of which content you get–just like it does when you’re looking for some related text.

For instance, let’s say you want to find line drawings sketched via ArtRage, you could search for the name “ArtRage” and a Content type set to “line drawings” in the Advanced Image Search page. (Note ArtRage is supported on non-Tablet PC platforms too, so you’ll get ArtRage sketches created on other platforms, so you might want to explore other search keywords to help refine your search.)

Here are the line drawings Google found with the ArtRage term:

ArtRageLineDrawings

What about paintings created with ArtRage? It’s possible to search for them too. The technique is to search for the keyword “ArtRage” as before, but this time around select “photo content” as the image type. Surprisingly it’ll work pretty well:

ArtRagePaintings

Pretty cool.

There’s a lot more you can do with the Advanced Image Search too. You can find photos with a face in them and a Tablet PC by searching for the “faces” Content type using “Tablet PC” for the keywords. Works pretty well.

Give it a try.
