SMS (Text Message) Trojans, Rootkits, and Fake Google Play Domains are threats to owners of Android based systems. This is because Android systems are primary targets for “malware attacks due to its market share and open source architecture.” The bulletin is a reminder that updating an operating system is a key security measure.

But don’t laugh. The iPhone Ikee.B malware was the first iPhone worm “created with distinct financial motivation.” There are now many more malware threats. The last paper linked in PDF format is well worth the read. It was originally released on June 22, 2012 then revised February 25, 2013. In fact, take a look at the documents supplied by the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team on cyber threats. Some are well worth the time to read.
