Today is Samsung’s official launch of the Q1 UMPC and already PCMag.com has a review here. And here are some great photos of the Q1 as it comes out of the box. Check out the slick, inner packaging. Nicely done.
For those of us that are keenly interested in getting a UMPC, one nice thing is that I see that the base price for the Q1 is $1,099.00. That’s much better than some of the estimates I’ve seen.
Oh, and the reported battery life? 3 hours. Not bad.
You’ll be able to purchase a unit from Best Buy Online, NewEgg, or CDW. I can’t find any store links yet. I’ll keep looking. Oh, I see, from the Samsung press release, the Q1 will be going on sale starting May 7th at Best Buy online here:
http://www.bestbuy.com/ultramobilepc
and “…in select Best Buy stores later this summer.” No time is given as to when the Q1 will appear in stores.
Samsung has a flash animation of the Q1 here. [Link via Gottabemobile]
Update: The Samsung press event is going on right now (11AM-1PM) and according to their website we’ll see additional photos and information then. Too bad the event is not being webcast.
Here’s the official Q1 spec from Samsung. Interesting to note that it says that they memory can be upgraded to 1GB. Evindently the PCMag review is incorrect in that it states that memory is fixed at 512MB.
I see from the spec that the Q1 also supports what it calls “AVS multimedia instant on capabilities” of the Q1. I wonder what it’s like.
