JKOnTheRun links to this downloadable Hotfix from Microsoft that addresses the problem of Tablet PCs with more than 1GB of memory not being able to hibernate. Instead of properly hibernating you’d get the perplexing error message:
Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API.
I’m so glad to see the bug fixed.
My Toshiba M400 has been able to hibernate since I upgraded its memory and I miss hibernation oh so much. Why not use sleep? Because here in the Phoenix heat I am hypersensitive about leaving computers running when they don’t need to. Yeah, I know I’m overly cautious. I’d just rather have the whole computer shutdown. I want to know everything is off.
I just downloaded the hotfix and now hibernation is working as it is supposed to. Actually, the first time I launched the hotfix I made the mistake of having a few programs open and what do you know, but the Tablet locked up when the hotfix got to the point of “inspecting the system”. I cycled the power on the Tablet, re-ran the hotfix and this time everything worked fine.
The lesson here is close all your apps before running the hotfix. I knew better, but was cutting a corner.
You will have to reboot your computer to completely apply the hotfix.
