Intel plays a critical role in most Tablet PCs. It’s their technology that most Tablet PCs employ. So when Intel announces a new mobile computing solution–such as the Centrino about a year ago–it can make a huge difference. Almost all second generation Tablets benefit from Centrino enhancements. I wouldn’t want to live without them.
Yesterday news spread across the Net that Intel is re-organizing around platforms. How does this impact the Tablet PC?
My guess is that it’s good news. Press accounts suggest that the goal of the re-org is to focus more on solutions than just processors. This should be great for the Tablet. The Tablet is not just a processor in a very thin box.
The Tablet PC comes to life with WiFi. Give a Tablet WiFi and a VOIP app like Skype and you have a terrific communication device. And with really good power management of the display, wireless transmitter and other devices, you can have a chance at maybe a full day of battery life. It’s system design that’s going to pull this off. Sounds like the newly created Intel Mobile Group is going to be focusing on system platform issues like this.
