19 Applications to Test on the iPad

The Apple App Store

Before the arrival of my iPad, I’m compiling a list of applications to test. The increase in screen size may ruin some applications or enhance others.

The winners that stay on the iPad will be based on the reason for ordering one; that is, the iPad will be my evening web companion and so I want productivity, blogging, social networking, and news apps to be front and center.

On the day of the iPad arrival, over 150,000 applications will be available but not all applications qualify to be added. For example, the UStream app and photo applications will be of no use right now because there is no camera (Boo) on the iPad. For now, I’ve narrowed down the list to the following:

Productivity Applications

  1. Informant. Synchronizing between Google Calendar and iPhone is going to be important. I look forward to trying this application on the iPad and seeing how well the calendar works on a larger screen.
  2. iWorks. This application is a must have for creating documents.
  3. Dictionary.
  4. iThesaurus
  5. HomeRoutine
  6. Kindle. I know iBooks is a free download, but my investment in books from Amazon is important, too.

Blogging Applications

  1. iBlogger
  2. BlogPress
  3. WordPress

Social Networking Applications

  1. Buzzie. This is the only iPhone application available for Google Buzz because the API is not available. This should change.
  2. Facebook.
  3. Twitterific
  4. TweetDeck
  5. BuddyFeed

News Applications

  1. NPR News
  2. News Pro
  3. NYTimes
  4. LANews
  5. Time Mobile

Have you thought about what apps you’ll install? If yes, what do you plan to install on your iPad? Did I miss an important one for you? Why?
