BETT 2006 showed this week education products from over 600 vendors to about 27,000 educators, parents, and others interested in information and communication technology (ICT). BBC News featured a story about a talking pen as an aide for language learning.
Among (these vendors) are Mantra Lingua, manufacturers of Talking Pen Francais. Move the pen over a word, sentence or picture and the student hears the words spoken by a native speaker.
Mantra’s managing director, Robene Dutta, says the pen can bridge the gap between traditional classroom language learning and the practice pupils may need to improve understanding and pronunciation.
I wonder if someone will make such writing-to-speech available as simple self contained option with a digital pen.
