Juan-Carlos Rodriguez of The Associated Press reports that Michael Viscardi won on Monday the nations premier high school science competition conducted by Siemens Westinghouse Competition in Math, Science and Technology. The 16 year old won $100,000 for his groundbreaking research on the Dirichlet Problem in mathematics.
On November 5, 2005, Viscardi shared Western regional honors with the team of Huy Nguyen and Gerald Tiu for their research on hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
The Siemens Westinghouse Competition, a signature program of the Siemens Foundation, is administered by the College Board.
These young scholars have demonstrated a standard of excellence and remarkable sophistication in their research,” said Thomas N. McCausland, chairman of the board of the Siemens Foundation. “As the next generation of scientists, mathematicians and engineers, it’s exciting to know America’s premier position as a world leader in innovation is in good hands.”
