Shopping online started with promises of availability, low prices and no sales tax. As online shopping sites grew, pressure grew to collect sales tax. Amazon spent years fighting against collecting sales tax. Slowly states have required the company the collect the tax.
State officials in 19 states now require Amazon to collect sales tax from state residents. The new states include Indiana, Nevada, and Tennessee. Florida residents will start paying sales tax in 2016.
