User Accounts page displayed on startup.

[Oldster]

Recently I've noticed that when the system starts up that the "User
Accounts" screen is displayed. This has only started recently and is a bit
annoying since there is nothing there that I wish to access. Anybody know
why this screen is displayed on start up? Or how to stop it? I can't seem to
find anywhere that would do this.

To skip the user accounts screen and go directly to the desktop on a
single user pc do this:

Click on the Start Menu and in Search for programs and files in the
lower left type "Run" (without the quotes) and press enter. In the run
window type "control userpasswords2" (again without the quotes) and
press enter. In the User Accounts window that opens clear the check
mark on the line that reads "Users must enter a user name and password
to use this computer" and click ok. You will then be asked to provide
the user name and password of the account you want Windows to
automatically logon with from then on.

Yes, but it doesn't actually ask me to login! I had at some time in

Yes, but it doesn't actually ask me to login! I had at some time in
the past set up my login in that manner. I can always do it again, but why
display the screen when nothing is actually required?

The command to produce that screen is ' control.exe userpasswords '.
Something must be running that command at start-up; have you checked
what's being started with Windows ?
Have you installed/updated anything recently ?

Have you tried either Autoruns or Hijackthis for start-up entries:

http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
If you can't see anything obvious then maybe try a System Restore to
an earlier time.

Return to the "Gold" Windows 7, delete all the updates you have installed,
they are the source of what you see.

I've tracked it down to a side effect of "Vista Start Menu". Remove this
from the startup set of programs, and the screen does NOT appear. I just
don't see why the program should initiate that screen.

It's an add-on that makes the START menu more useable for the likes
of me!
