I guess in your excitement you neglected to note that it's Ubuntu 8.04,
a TWO YEAR old distro. Open Office 3 comes installed by default in the
latest distro.

Makes you wonder what he's afraid of. Maybe he cleans malware infested
Windows machines for a living and isn't ready to lose business to Linux.

I guess that just blows your *everything needs to be done in a
terminal* argument now does it......

You are now saying that there are other ways to do things in
Ubuntu other than the way you keep claiming is the only way.

Which is it?

Or should I say, which will it be tomorrow ?

What about the day after that ?

You can certainly do that if you feel you have to have the latest OOo on
a two year old Ubuntu system. Most folks find it simpler to just upgrade
and update - no muss, no fuss, co CLI at all.

I just used the package manager.

[deletia]

Alternately, I could have used the Windows-style binary installer but
I haven't had to use that thing in years. Although I did use it back in
the day when it was still Star Office and before Sun bought it.
