rundll32.exe

Win XP pro laptop, version 5., sp3.

Every time I try to do anything I get rundll32.exe cannot be found. When I
try to open a program, I get the Open With window with nothing that works.

I suspect a virus or the like but can't run AV or anything else to try to
locate culprit. I tried running repair w/XP Pro cd and do not get repair
option. I loaded rundll32.exe from another machine and nothing changed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Ken,

SUPERAntiSpyware just put up a Online Safe Scan at
<http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html>
if you cannot install and/or run the current SUPERAntiSpyware pÑoduct due to
an infection.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

I found another XP Pro installation CD and can get to the repair function
(Press Enter, F8 and then R option) but every time it starts the laptop
shutsdown. I also noticed that when I put the cd in the drive, it pops back
open several times and I have to keep pushing it back in till it finally
loads. Other than that, it will sit there and run all day.

After running a couple of times, this did the trick. Thanks and have a great
day.

Hi Ken,

Just out of curiosity. Is your system Time Zone set correctly? Check it
by clicking the time clock on the taskbar notification area
and follow the wizard to set your Time Zone properly.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for posting back. That's always a nice gesture when we get back a
post indicating if the suggestions were helpful or not.
