PowerPoint Read-Only notification when opening through IE

Hello,

I am faced with an issue and hoping someone could help me.

When PowerPoint file is opened by a second user from shared drive they would
get Read-Only notification specifying who has the file locked. However if
this user tries to open same file Through IE (either clicking on the link or
pasting file path to the address bar) they would not get Read-Only message.
The interesting thing is that this is the way it works in IE but not in
Firefox. Firefox would display the read-only message.
I believe that either way PowerPoint is opening file as read-only however
not getting notification when opened through IE is confusing.

Does anyone know why this is happening or maybe how to fix it?

Thank You

Hi Vic,

Windows and IE versions? (assuming XP or higher and IE8)

If things work in FX or the other browsers but are different in IE then it
is most likely a IE Security zone settings issue.

Tools>Internet Options - Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default
level"

Regards.
