NEED A LITTLE INFO PLEASE!

I was just wondering if you can please tell me how I can go about finding my
question that I was working on in the Microsoft Newsgroup for Windows XP
General when it went down and the answers that were provided. Can you please
tell me how I can get back to that place as I was not quite done getting all
of the answers that I needed. This is pretty important to me or I would not
be asking this at all. I would at least like to continue this before all of
it gets migrated by June 21. Thank you!

The ones on April 29 and March 13?

Keep clicking the arrow in the right end of the heading until you reach
the "page" that shows those dates in the right column. The April 29
thread was on the eighth page when I last looked. The March 13 thread is
on page 34. Note that the page numbers will probably increase as more
people create new threads. Once you locate your threads you should be
able to use your brouser's "Save As..." function (on the "File" menu) to
save the threads to your hard drive.

You are experiencing one of the reasons some people are disappointed
about Microsoft discontinuing the newsgroup interface. In newsgroup
readers like Outlook Express and Thunderbird it's very much easier to
click the "from" column heading and see all of someones posts in a FEW
seconds.

Thread titles a little more specific than "Please Help" and "Need a
Little Info" could help you find your threads easier.

Enter your name (which you were using) in the box top/right "search
this group" and all your "previous" will appear.

The easiest and best way to find newsgroup messages is with
googlegroups advanced search.

If it dont work with your newsreader, you know you can go to google
groups and read old messages.

One thing about using Agent, I can download all messages for the last
few years and save all of them. Just depends how far my news provider
saves them. I do suspect google groups will keep them, unless google
sold out to MS, which I dont doubt.

Thanks for sharing with me on how to save the posts to my Hard Drive. I
didn't know you could do it that way. I just always copied and pasted the old
fashioned way to tell you the truth. I didn't know that's why so many were
disappointed in the Newsgroups. I personally was happy in it, in that at
least you got the help you needed when you needed it. Also, thanks for
telling me to be more specific in my titles. Sometimes I do it this way so
I'll know where to look for mine right away being that it will stand out in
the crowd so to speak.

Hey thanks a million for this little tip as well as I didn't know you could
do that either. I just assumed that the search box was used only to search
for a discussion for say, registry help or something like that by putting
that there in the search box and everything that had to do with just that
would come up only and nothing else. Something worth remembering as using for
sure as a useful tool in the future yet to come.

Hey thanks for this in locating this for me and for the tip about proceeding
at my own risk as well also. Just one 3 part question, is everything I post
in the future to any forum in Microsoft gonna be saved to the google groups
for me to look up later on if I ever need to and for how long will they be
stored online? How did these get saved and stored on google groups?

I don't use any of the newsreaders like Outlook Express or Thunderbird at
all. Too bad for me. But, it's always nice to know that I can go to the
google groups and read old messages like you say, but lets hope they don't
sell out to MS like you say here. Bad news for me and everyone else that uses
it or has used it in the past if that were to happen. It would not surprise
me at all if they do sell out to MS as things like this always seem to happen
no matter what we try and do to prevent it. Sure wished the world would stop
doing that to all of us and just leave things the way they are for all to
enjoy every now and then. You know the old saying, "Here today, gone
tomorrow"! That's the way the world likes it, to make it more miserable on
ones like you and me you know!

So far Google keeps all posts forever. (Or they say they do. There are
a few things that *should* be there that I can't find in Google's
archive.)

>How did these get saved and stored on google groups?

Google bought old archives from Deja News when they went out of
business. As for newer ones, Google simply operates their own Usenet
server, and saves everything that comes in into their bottomless
database.

You can delete all your tracks from Google, and they honor it.
