MS Document Scanning - scanner issue

    My previous printer/scanner keeps showing up as the only scanner in MS
    Document Scanning. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MSDI/MDSC after
    uninstalling the printer, again, and it STILL will not recognize my new
    scanner - it gives me an error message about my old one, which is not even
    connected. I've contacted HP (old one), Canon(new one) and have had ZIP for
    luck. I do not wish to use anything BUT MSDI/Scanning because it is very
    convenient and easy to use.

    The dropdown list of scanners is empty - but I can scan using OTHER
    applications with my new scanner.

    Computer is Windows XP SP3. Has all updates. Any help would be HUGELY
