Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack

I just installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack on my office
2003 version

I tried to save a word file in docx format, but got an error - I then
tried to read a file save with word 2007 in docx format, but that
failed too ... Is there a way to fix this?

Doesn't sound like the install completed successfully, the actual error
message frequently will give clues as what the problem is and then you
can try fixing it. Try posting them verbatim.

Greetings --

Thanks for the reply.

There is really nothing to post.

I open word (2003), type some text, then do a "save as" ... docx is a
format type, I pick it and when it trys to save it,
I get an error message "i/o error"

The same thing happens on reading a docx file

"i/o error" is the complete error message, nothing further? Please
verify that. Also you may want to open Word, click "Help", "Detect and
Repair" in the interim.
