KB2286198 downloads but does not install.

Dell Dim C521, AMD 64 x2 Dual,
Media Center Edition ver 2002,
Service Pack 3
IE8

The update downloads from the Win Update but does not
install itself. There is no explanation given.
I was on automatic update so I turned that off and tried
manually, but it still wouldn't install.

Later I downloaded and installed KB972696 (MSE definitions)
with no problem but 2286198 still would not install.

Am I the only one with this problem? Where do I start? In
the past I haven't had very good results with Windows update
help.

Thanks. Taxacola Jack

Never mind, the problem no longer exists. I ran chkdsk and
rebooted and then, when I ran the update, it downloaded AND
installed itself. I don't know just what chkdsk actually
did since I can't remember where the log is written, but it
evidently straightened out the mess.

Sorry for the interruption...

The chkdsk result should be listed in the Application event log with the
Source being Chkdsk.
Right click My Computer either on the Desktop or Start Menu, choose
Manage to access the App event log.
