Images stored in an MP3 file

Hi,

I have a number of MP3 files (downloaded from various sources) on my PC,
some of which when clicked on once in explorer an image is displayed on the
lower toolbar, others just show the icon associated with the default music
player.

How do I associate a picture file with an MP3 file?

The image is probably cover art that's embedded in the MP3. You need a
3rd-party utility to add it. I like mp3tag.
