I posted here in December and January but when I used "search for" to find
all of my posts, the December and January posts did not appear but the older
posts did.

Try using a newsreader instead of the clunky Web interface.

Setting up Outlook Express to access Microsoft newsgroups:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm

Or copy/paste this link into your browser's address bar.

Windows XP General Newsgroup.

I did a quick search
and found stuff from oct nov dec and jan

guess your news server dropped them

I always use a few different news-servers as the results vary

All your posts are there, use a proper news reader to access these groups
and you'll have a much better experience.

Do yourself a BIG favour and ditch the horrible web interface. Use a news
reader instead.

Setting up Outlook Express/Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail to access
Microsoft newsgroups

I thought that the web interface was just that - an interface to this news
group. So does the web interface store posts separately, on a separate
server to the NNTP server?

I guess it does. Occasionally I find someone replying to a post that is 1
or 2 years old, and often upon checking their headers they show they are
using the CDO for Windows 2000. AKA, the Web interface.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general only shows the
3 previous days of posts! How does one display older posts?

Re: I posted here in December and January but when I used "search

What news server are you using? Your ISP's? Another one? If you set it up
using msnews.microsoft.com as the first link describes, messages are
retained on the server for 90 days.
