I got help here before

This doesn't necessarily come under Win. 7 but maybe it does. I received an
email and I can't delete it. When I left or right click it the computer
freezes it. I can not go to edit and use the delete either. If it is
highlighted it freezes the computer.

I am in Windows 7.general Outlook Express. Please is there anyone here that
can help me get rid of this email or tell me where to go to find out how to
get rid of it. Nothing like this has ever happened before. The email is a
video I think and the name of it is 72 virgins. I have not opened it I just
want to get it out so my computer quits freezing up on me. I tried looking
up a search for the file and the search comes up empty.

How can that be? Outlook Express is not available for Windows 7.

Try shutting of your anti-virus protection. Be extra careful to NOT
accidentally open the message. Try it in Safe Mode.

At the top of the screen on the left side it says
alt.windows7.general-outlook express. But your right, I had forgot I got
this computer because it has XP on it. My mistake. I don't know how to
make it go to safe mode. Question though, why would I turn the virus
protection off. The person that sent it to me, my brother, said it did
nothing to his computer.

What??? The top of what screen? No matter what, Outlook Express has
not been available with new operating systems since about 2006. Some
people have manually copied it over from and XP system, but I would
think you would remember if you had done that.

Outlook Express will probably not run correctly on Windows 7 even if
you can get it to run at all. This may be one of the things that
won't work.

Turn it off temporarily in case the anti-virus is interfering with
the deletion operation.

In addition to Nil's advice (BTW, I'm also skeptical about turning the AV
off), configure your e-mail program to show only the folder and header
panes, not the bodies of e-mail (i.e., a two-pane view, not a three-pane
view). This will keep you from accidentally opening the e-mail. That is
probably in the View menu (I have no copy of Outlook Express to look at and
I haven't used it for quite a few years).

Based on what you said about Safe Mode, I would recommend getting an
experienced friend over to help you.

Most email providers also have a web based email page.
Try logging into that and deleting the email.
It won't do you any good if the message has already been fully downloaded,
however.
My bet is it's freezing while it's downloading the video, you could always
leave it on that message for a half hour and see if that clears it up. (ie.
let it download the video.)

Stinkweed, you don't have windows7. What that shows you, at the top of the
screen, is the newsgroup you're in, and the program you are running it in,
hence alt.windows7.general - Outlook Express. You need to configure Outlook
Express to not open your message in the preview pane when you have it
selected. Then it can probably be deleted.

Click on Tools, then select Options. Click the Read tab. Clear the
checkbox (uncheck) next to Automatically download message when viewing in
the Preview Pane. Click OK. Now, try deleting your unwanted message. If
that doesn't work, you can go back to the same Tools/Options/Read Tab, and
put a check in the box next to Read all messages in plain text. This will
prevent HTML (or other code) from running when you have selected a message.
If you like receiving html coded messages, then switch it back after you've
deleted the problem. Or, you can leave it checked and when you get a
message that uses html, just click the View Menu and select ..This message
in HTML. You'll need to do it for every message separately.

You will not be able to find the message file by searching for it in
Windows, because Outlook Express uses message stores that actually hold all
your messages, that are in the same folder, in one file. Inbox.dbx would be
the name of the file containing all the messages in your inbox. Outbox.dbx
would contain all the messages in the outbox, etc...

By the way, there are numerous Outlook Express groups that could have
probably helped you quicker, and some people on here get in a tizzy about
off-topic posts.

If you have already tried to delete the pose just close your news client.
When you open your news client again hopefully it should be deleted.

That's this newsgroup. Go to start/search/search all files and folders
(make sure you include all hidden files) search for inbox.dbx and delete all
the entries it finds. First move all the inbox emails you want to keep to a
new folder or you'll lose them too.

You can also just rename that file (perhaps to something like
"bad_inbox.dbx"), if you want to keep the potential to fix the problem. OE
will have to be closed, and will re-create a new, empty inbox.dbx.

You can move the renamed file to another folder, restart OE, add a folder
with the appropriate name (to make the entry in folders.dbx), then re-close
OE and copy the renamed file over the newly made and empty one. On
restart, the original mails - and their risks - will be available as they
were.

I have tried a few of the things that you all have said to do and had

computers so will have to try and get someone else to help me. Thank each
