Gender Bias in Pronoun Choices

Choose your words wisely.

I read a quote on CNN and it started me thinking about the challenges to using pronouns. Here is the quote.

"Once someone has a wireless device, she becomes much more active in how she uses the internet -- not just with wireless connectivity, but also with wired devices," said Pew.

Does this mean men do not have the issue? Why did the person choose "she"? Is this a femanist style of writing and speaking? How would you say this to someone else?

Maybe I am too 12th century.

Anyway, i would probably say ... Once someone has a wireless device, then the person becomes much more active ...
