S

My friend bought a Dell computer with windows Home Premium 64 bit

Some vital business programs require 32 bit windows 7

I have an OEM version 32 bit Home Premium.

Can I use my DVD to install widows 7 32 bit on his Dell computer with
the the Dell 64 bit keys?

Install the 32 bit programs. They will work. You can right click the
shortcut and run as vista 32 if they don't.

Big bag of trouble trying to install oem 32 bit over another oem 64 bit.

It is an Ontario Medical billing program.

This program requires a 32 bit OS...not necessarily Windows 7.
It will run with XP as well as Vista.
The Ontario Ministry of Health has not adapted Windows 7 as its only OS
I should also run on 64bit XP/Vista/Windows7

Peter, you seem to be saying 2 things that cannot both be true.

Which is it, the program requires 32 bit or will/should run on 64 bit?

What about using XP-virtualization mode? I'm pretty sure that would
create a virtual 32-bit machine.

XP-virtualization mode doesn't run on W7 Home Premiun, you need Win7 Pro or
Ultimate.

Ah, yes - I have Pro, but my CPU can't run XP Mode anyway (not that I
would need it). It sounds like it would be worth upgrading to Pro, if
that would run the software - and that could be tested first, without
actually buying anything (email me if help is needed there).

One poster (Slap) suggested running the program on your Win 7 and see
if it works. I'd do that, and if it fails, then I'd install a virtual
machine. VMware reader is free, and it works well. You would need a
paid version of some 32-bit version of Windows.

E.g., I am running Windows XP Home in VMware so that I can program an
old home entertainment remote control that I have.
