Class Size Does Not Matter

Ask Mitt Romney and he will tell you, class size does not matter. Since Mr. Romney is using the same advisers as Mr Bush then this should be no surprise.

Is he correct?

"Class Size: What Research Says and What It Means for State Policy" published last year argues the cost effect is too high. The policy paper suggests a savings of $12 billion by the increase of one child per classroom. However, according to Diane Whitmore Schanzenbach, the policy paper is based on poor research done in irrelevant settings.

The disagreements are based on interpretations of the late 1980's STAR research completed in Tennessee. STAR is the only random experiment available in the literature.
