Dr. Mark Ghaly, California's health and human services secretary, announced the California statewide mask mandate for indoor public spaces will continue through at least Feb. 15, 2022.
- A number of California counties — including Los Angeles, Ventura and Sacramento — and most of the San Francisco Bay Area already have their own indoor mask mandates
- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranks California as having a high level of transmission of the coronavirus.
- California has reported an average of 54,695 new cases per day over the last week
- As of Wednesday, California averaged a seven-day positivity rate of 21.3%
