1. If the "version information" shown at
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ is "10,0,42,34" then you
*don't* have the latest version installed. What do you mean that you
"don't pass the test"?
Do the following in a User Account that has administrative privileges.
2. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove anything
that begins "Adobe Flash Player ..." You may have two entries, one
that says "ActiveX" (which works with Internet Explorer) and one that
says "Plugin" (which works with Firefox).
3. Reboot your computer.
4. Using Windows Explorer, go to C
Windows\system32. Look for a
folder named Macromed (C
Windows\system32\Macromed). If this folder
exists, see if it includes a folder named Flash
(C
Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash). If the Flash folder exists,
delete all files that are in it. If the Flash folder or the Macromed
folder does not exist, that's fine.
5. Using Internet Explorer, download the current Flash player installer
file. You may do this by one of the following means:
a. Enter the following in the Address box:
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
b. Enter the following in the Address box:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
If you use option (b), be sure to UNcheck the box for the "Free McAfee®
Security Scan Plus (optional)" *before* you click the "Agree and install
now" button.
If you use option (a), after the download is complete, find the file you
downloaded and double-click it.
6. Close IE and reboot.
7. Open IE and go to
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
This should now report version 10,0,45,2. You should see the
"Successfully installed" animation.
8. Close IE and open Firefox.
9. In Firefox, go to
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
You should see something that says that you need a plugin to display the
content. Click on the plugin icon. The plugin should install and you
should see the "Successfully installed" animation.
