While working on a remote control (R/C) micro-conversation threader for thredr.com, I came across this forum posting about a guy that took aerial photos from his R/C plane while visiting the Grand Canyon. What a clever twist on hiking the canyon.
Chris has a whole website dedicated to his aerial photo endeavors. Looks like fun.
I did notice one thing that caught my attention further: There’s no RSS feed on Chris’ site, GoodAerial.com. Then I noticed that his website is hosted by Microsoft’s Office Live Small Business. It made me think: Aren’t small businesses some of the ones that need a clean and simple blog/RSS feed “service” the most? Wouldn’t this be easy to provide? In fact, I began to wonder if there isn’t one already. I can’t find it, so I assume not, but this sure seems like a natural.
Why is a blog so important for a small site? The number one reason: the frequent posts will drive traffic and the RSS feeds that are common to most blogs, provide a computer friendly way of accessing the content. My prediction is that there will be more search engines that leverage the content-labelled data within the RSS feeds. Scraping a page is fine, but nicely, computer-friendly formatted content is better. The other reason for blogging is that it gives you a chance to connect with your current and potential customers in one more way. It’s also a great channel for sharing information with customers–about new products or current issues.
