Newly Re-Elected Republican Congressman Michael Grimm Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

Congressman Michael Grimm (R – NY) turned himself over to authorities and entered a guilty plea to tax evasion in federal court today. He was indicted in April, 2014 on 20-counts. Sentencing will be June 8, 2015.

Prosecutors, FBI, and IRS agents are seeking a two year prison term. The House Ethics Committee has not investigated the allegations against Mr. Grimm but the Congressman stated he would not resign from Congress.

Grimm complained prior to election night that the stories about tax evasion were a political witch hunt.

Mr. Grimm signed a “statement of facts” in which he acknowledged committing perjury, hiring illegal immigrants and committing wire fraud.
