Instapaper, the iPad, and Sleep

As I was lounging in bed last night, trying to relax and get some much needed sleep, I was looking through my Google buzz stream and saw Marco Arment of Instapaper published a preview of Instapaper for the iPad. I’ll be the first to admit that Instapaper was not installed on my iPhone – and so I downloaded it to give it a try. Immediately after installing it, I was asleep. Thank you Marco.

But seriously, the application had nothing to do with falling asleep, except I felt a sort of security in knowing that the articles I wanted to read could now be properly bookmarked. I slept peacefully, sort of. Curie took care of the sleeping thing around 4 am – by scratching up a storm. Once awake, I started looking through my buzz stream and saw that TechCrunch now had their article online.

Here is the thing, I run into articles all of the time that I want to read but don’t have the time. Instapaper is supposed to solve that problem.
Instapaper on the iPad

After re-reading Maroc’s post, I have to hand it to the gentleman. The combination between the iPad and Instapaper seem natural but apparently building the application for the iPad has been a challenge. Someone at Apple needs to give this developer access to the iPad before the launch. Steve, if you are reading this, please send him one. Here is why.

When everyone else was stalling their iPhone development for months in order to redesign entire applications for the iPad, I made the obligatory cardboard prototype and mocked up a bunch of radical interface departures.

So, Apple, this application could be a winning reason to make the iPad easier for people to read articles on the iPad and it’s in your best interest to help the developer. Oh, and if you don’t have Instapaper installed on your iPhone, you should down load it.

Here is a nice YouTube video on the way to use Instapaper.
