Windows XP does not refresh folder after file operation

For some time now our entire organization of about 20 PCs joined into
an Active Directory and with a Windows 2003 Domain Controller have
been having a curious problem; that is, file operations on network
drives do not generate automatic updates to the view for the current
folder. This was true for both Windows Explorer view, and Folder views
- as well as mapped network drives and network shares accessed via UNC
path names.

After a small amount of research, the "quick fix" is simply to press
F5. Fair enough, but you really should not have to do this -
especially since it was not required in the 10 or so previous years
that we have had a network.

So after weeks of intermittent Googling, and much head bashing, I
found dozens of suggestions - non of which worked, not even the stuff
on Kelly's Corner! :(

Then I found another post which worked! So I am re-stating what I
found, since it is the *only* thing that has worked for me. I hope the
solution helps you too! :)

The original post was for Win7, but I found a similar registry entry
for Win XP. I have included the text for a ".REG" file. Just copy &
paste, save, and load into your registry. Re-Boot and you should be
good to go!!

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BDEADE7F-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}\Instance]
"CLSID"="{4D5C8C2A-D075-11D0-B416-00C04FB90376}"
"DontRefresh"=dword:00000000

I can't believe it was so hard to find the solution for this little
"gem"!

Enjoy!

ARGHHHH!!!!

After the latest round of Windows Updates, the problem is back, and my
"fix" no longer works!

I just don't have time to spend screwing around with something that
always used to work!

Does ANYONE have a fix?

Did you ever use Kelly's tweak to prevent automatic refresh of folders
and Desktop? If so, she has an "Enable" tweak to re-enable it, here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 157. Prevent Automatic Folder and Icon Refresh - Enable
Line 199. Enable Folder and Icon Refresh
Line 204. Force Auto Refresh - Undo

Maybe you used TweakUI to turn off that feature?

Well will wonders never cease! Thanks Elmo. I had previously tried
these, to no avail at that time. But I decided to do all three anyways
- this time they worked!

Go figure.

Thanks Again

That's great news! Thanks for reporting back.
