Windows install cleanup utility

I am having some trouble installing MS Office OneNote and have been advised
to use the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup utility. Hmmm. It appears
the cleanup utility installed, but I still have the same issue when trying
to open IT too. When opening the utility, it runs the Windows Install.

Is there a way to manually clear the installer folders like in Windows XP?
I don't remember how that is done either at this point.

Are you opening the Utility from the Start Menu or desktop?

From the start menu. There is no desktop icon.

Related question

I was able to locate the Windows installer folder and it is loaded with
files and folders. Can I remove these folders? Is there another folder
that needs to be cleared as well? Am I looking at it the right way?

Thanks for all of your responses.

I assume that you are trying to un-install Office OneNote, clean up (and
have a second go at installing it?)

Windows Installer Clean Up Utility does not work with Office 2007 including One
Note. Check the Note: Section in the Installer Clean Up Utility page which say's the
following. See the KB article the bottom note refers to.

**********
NoteWe recommend that you do not use this utility with 2007 Office system products.

Use the following to remove One Note from Office 2007. Just remove One Note and not
the rest of the Office Suite

I was finally able to get the utility to open, but when attempting to run
the cleanup for Office OneNote, it would not complete. I am still unable to
install Office OneNote and now I get missing icons on my desktop.

It seems that I am running into a bunch of little things that are beginning
to drive me crazy, and believe me, that is a very short trip.

Have you run the Microsoft Office Diagnostics?
Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools.
