Upgrading IE Has Turned My Computer Into an XP Version of Vista

I have held off upgrading from version 6 of IE for as long as possible
for exactly the kind of thing that happened, but a website I use
routinely has forced me to upgrade. After upgrading I now get nag
messages when I do various activities that have absolutely nothing to
do with the browser. I get warning messages when I start programs and
various ordinary activities. I get the following warning when I put
a picture in Photoshop and even when I copy a file from one drive to
another:

In case it isn't obvious the question is, how do I stop this incessant
nagging.

I'm running XP Pro.

You'll probably get asked all the version numbers of your OS,
browser, virus scanner and what software you have used before.

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2;
Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or
newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

Is the computer fully patched at Windows Update?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE8?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Cite a few examples of these "various activities" which elicit this "page
has an unspecified potential security risk" warnings.

PS: Quote this entire post or don't bother replying to it.
