Solar Eclipse in North America

Not to be solely interested in discussing North America - but - "the first central eclipse of the 21st century in the continental USA, and also the first annular eclipse since the solar eclipse of May 10, 1994."

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets directly between Earth and the sun. Sunday’s event will be an partial solar eclipse across most of the United States and Canada, and a more compelling annular solar eclipse for a narrow swath of residents in the West and Southwest. The sun sets before any of it will be visible from the East Coast, however. - Live Science

Yes! It's been 18 years. Prepare and enjoy the Sunday afternoon / evening.

How to View the Eclipse
Make sure you do not look directly into the sun. If you'd like a project with your kids then build a viewer.

You may also use some cardboard to build a quick and easy viewer.: "You can also get a piece of cardboard, punch a nail through it, and then angle the cardboard to project the sun's light on another piece of cardboard."

An LA Times article provides other ways to view the eclipse.
