proprietary HP dv6000 HD

My HP dv6000 laptop came with a Fujitsu 120GB HD.

I cloned the 120GB HD onto a Hatachi 320GB
HD which I intended to swap with the original
HD in the laptop. Then I discovered that HP was
loaded with a HD which had a non-standard pin-out.

Does there exist an adapter to go between the
Hatachi & the dv6000?

Does some simple option exist?

Normally, (not sure in HP's case) there is an adapter that can be
removed from the original drive and put on the new drive.

HP uses standard drives. The drive on the dv6000 may be
using a 2.5" IDE connector, which is different from a 3.5"
IDE drive connector. The 320GB drive is probably SATA,
and won't work in the dv6000.

If the 120GB drive has a dual row of pins, almost the width of
the drive it is IDE. IDE 2.5" laptop drives are available. The
Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVE is a 320GB 5400
RPM 8MB cache laptop drive.

I'm sure the dv6000 is SATA and he certainly would not mistake a 3.5"
for a 2.5".
My only knowledge of a SATA adapter is on a new Dell 1545. Pop it off
and put it on the new one.

My only knowledge of a SATA adapter is on a new Dell 1545. Pop it off

I checked the dv6000 service manual. The 120GB drive is an
ATA-5 drive. It looks like the motherboard connector is a
standard 2.5" IDE socket. The drive connects vertically
instead of end on, and there's what looks like a right angle
adapter on the end of the drive. The OP never told us the
make and model of the drive. There are seven drive sizes for
the dv6000, from 40GB to 200GB, so I can't see HP stocking
that many different drives with proprietary interfaces, but
anything's possible.

The 120GB and lower are listed as 100MHz ATA-5 in the service
manual, which is wrong. The 120GB drive is a SATA drive when the
part number is referenced.
