Pausing When Opening Folders, Especially Trashcan.

Anyone getting intermittent 3 to 5 second pauses when opening folders
or dumping the trashcan?
I have no antivirus or other security software running (I use on
demand scanners) so it's not that.

Doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be a problem.

WRT Trashcan, I will select "Empty Recycle Bin" and it will pause
maybe 3 to 5 seconds before the dialog box comes up. I see the hard
drive light on when this is happening and it could have 1 file in it
or 100 files, it doesn't seem to matter.

With folders, it's the same thing. Intermittent pausing.

I have indexing service turned off but everything else is default and
this is a desktop system with 3 drives and it happens on all of them.
No power saving features, like spin down, are turned on.

Again this is intermittent and doesn't happen all the time.
I've run diags on everything and it's clean.
I see nothing in the logs.

Any ideas?

It could be something like an Explorer context-menu item.
If you haven't already done so, have a look with ShellExView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
The non-Microsoft items are high-lighted in pink and
you can disable/enable entries to check things.

Also it may be worth looking at the reliability graph:
Control Panel
System and Security
Action Center
Maintenance > drop down menu > View Reliability history.
Select to view by Days and click on an item to view details.

You say it can't be antivirus but have you ever had any antivirus
on the machine and removed it? If you have it could be a service
still left running even after an uninstall.

At this point you just entered "dumb fuck" status and require no further
attention.

No, actually it's you who have reached that status.

Hint: the machine is not connected to the Internet.
I use Linux for Internet stuff.
I run an on demand scanner once a month just in case though.

Looks like you are in need of a re-calibrate routine.

Doubtful.

....and you install Windows Updates how? Do you use the Force?

Like I said, "DUMB FUCK"!

Take a laxative with that. I'm sure it will help.

Doubtful.
