Outlook 2003 not default program after uninstalling Office 2010 Be

I installed Office 2010 Beta and was not surprised to find that if I accessed
my old Outlook 2003 I got the message "Outlook is not currently your default
program for E-mail......", presumably because of the conflict with Outlook
2010.

I have now uninstalled the entire Office 2010 Beta installation, but the
message will not go away. The message ends "Would you like to make it the
default program?", to which I answer Yes - but the same thing happens every
time I access Outlook. I have ensured that the Default Programs (I am
running Vista) is correctly set to Custom installation, with Outlook as the
default program.

What do I have to do to make Outlook 2003 think it is the default email
program?

Have you tried Help, Detect and Repair? (inside Outlook)

Excellent - that did it. I did not know of the existence of the Repair
function! Many thanks.

The uninstallation of Office 2010 Beta has left a number of files under the
folders "Microsoft Office/Office12 & 1033". Fortunately I have a custom
installation of the 2003 suite under a folder named "Microsoft Office 2003",
so the 2010 Beta did not overwrite it. Should I delete the remaining 2010
folders?

Humm, Office12 would be Office 2007 not 2010. Perhaps you are mistaken
about where that folder came from?

Perhaps you are right. The computer came with a trial copy of Office 2007,
which I I uninstalled, presumably not completely. Should I delete the
folders?

Ah, that would make sense. I suggest deleting them to the Recycle Bin
first and observe for any untoward results for a period of time before
emptying the the Bin.
