|Did you try to copy a file to the drive in question? Did you try
|to subsequently try to read, copy or delete this test file? Can
|you drag and drop to/from the thumb drive?

|Try different scenarios to see what works and what doesn't.
|Sometimes this is all it takes to correct these "strange"
|situations.

I've been able to "read" files from each device using PC Inspector
File Recovery. This program can "see" the drive (as does disk
management service) even though it has no drive letter. I can't copy
or drag a file to the device since it doesn't show up in explorer or
any other program as a devide with a drive letter. This even after I
add a drive letter under disk mamagement. A drive letter is assigned
under disk manager but it never shows up in any program that would be
used to view/copy/manipulate the contents of the drive. This is
really driving me nuts. And thanks for the tips.
